Some of the most outstanding tourist activities and products include:
Visit to the archaeological site located in the middle of the Cordovan countryside, about 13 km from Castro del Río and 22 km from Baena, at an altitude of 579.60 m.
On this visit you can enjoy the traces left by its inhabitants from the Copper Age to the Late Middle Ages, although it was in the Iberian and Roman periods when Torreparedones reached its maximum splendour; as early as the 6th century BC it was surrounded by a powerful wall, reinforced with towers, which surrounds an area of 10.5 hectares.
Significant areas have been discovered and documented, such as the forum, baths, market, necropolis and entrance gates to the city, among others.
An old mill houses the Olive and Olive Oil Museum of Baena. The aim of this museum is to collect and promote the most significant aspects of the culture of olive oil and the olive grove.
We offer tastings and samplings of olive oil and related products in the museum itself after the visit.
The Cueva del Yeso in Baena, Cordoba, is the only cave in the Guadalquivir Valley of water origin and is home to a large colony of young of an endangered species of bats and several species of shrimp which, worldwide, only inhabit this cave, as studies by European, Canadian and Chilean researchers have shown.
The Cave is made up of two floors, one of which is where the tourist visits take place with a route of about 250 metres, passing through various lakes and where you can see caves up to 12 metres high.
The main entrance is located in the area known as Puente de la Maturra, next to the Salina de Cuesta Paloma, and very close to the bridge over the Guadajoz river.
It is located 8 km from Baena and 10 km from Castro del Río, in the municipality of the former.
In the primitive quarter of the town, located in the “Casa de la Tercia” building, is the Historical Museum of Baena.
It is a building constructed between 1792 and 1795 as a grain and seed storehouse and oil warehouse. At the beginning of the 20th century it was adapted and used as an inn and during the civil war it was used as a prison.
In 1984 the town council incorporated it into the municipal patrimony and carried out a major refurbishment, and the museum was inaugurated in 1999.
During 2010, the building underwent a major refurbishment as the headquarters of the Municipal Historical-Archaeological Museum, and was reopened in February 2011.
It shows the visitor an extraordinary collection, which adds new and impressive pieces to the already rich collection, including those found in the Torreparedones Archaeological Park.
The contents of this museum are divided into several rooms:
Castro del Río – Historic centre of La Villa
(This activity is completed with visits to olive wood craft workshops, organic olive oil mills or cod factory).
A visit to the historic centre of La Villa allows us to enjoy its white ancestral homes and narrow cobbled streets, embellished with picturesque arches at the main entrances. An enclave with a singular attraction of clear Islamic tradition where the main museums, churches, historic buildings, castle, walls and the best views of the town can be seen.
We will also learn about its Cervantine past, where the tradition of the centuries-old olive tree is embodied in society in the form of furniture, everyday objects and liquid gold.
Feel the magic of the history of heaven and earth in an exceptional place.
We bring together astronomy and heritage from the hand of our collaborator and astronomer Antonio Becerra from a professional perspective.
Enjoy the sunset from the medieval castle of the Torreparedones Archaeological Park.

In the stately “villa” of Castro del Río, once Muslim and later Cervantine, is located the rural house La Villa. An old house from the 18th century in the centre of the historic quarter of La Villa de Castro del Río. It forms part of the Camino de Santiago and is located on the Caliphate route, which links the cities of Cordoba and Granada, on the banks of the river Guadajoz.
If you are looking for tranquillity, charm and a taste for rural life, stay at Casa Rural La Villa. The vaulted ceilings and brick walls steeped in history, accompanied by the typical local décor and restored period furniture, make the interior pleasant and welcoming.
